The new Nashville Is Talking

by Christian Grantham - 2:01 pm - February 9th, 2009

nit020909I just flipped the switch on the new Nashville Is Talking. Chances are a couple of things will be broken here until code correctly reflects the complete DNS change. If you do find something broken, it should be working shortly.

We’ve moved from Drupal to WordPress. The site should be more familiar to you.We used Drupal for about a year. It’s a very powerful platform, but I couldn’t leverage it’s full potential for what we’re aiming to provide the community.

If you do not see your blog in any of the blog rolls you see on the various channels of content (Entertainment, Faith, Family, Food, Politics, Sports, Tech, Twitter, and Video), contact me with a link to your blog and the channel(s) you feel best fit and I’ll add you.

As we move forward, we’ll add new features and different ways to display your content. One new area of content we’re aggregating is locally produced video content. We’ll also add a Podcast channel soon.

You’ll also notice the new NIT forums. Give them a try and let me know what you think.

I may simply be missing it, but is there a way to view the entire blogroll (or receive a feed of it) rather than only being able to see posts by category? I’m looking for what equates to http://www.nashvilleistalking.com/all from the old site.

    Thanks

  2. Good idea. I went ahead and created a page here: http://www.nashvilleistalking.com/nashville-is-talking-blogroll/ I’ll figure out where to link that from so people can find it. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Very nice–well done. But tell me, if I wanted to see all the posts by a particular individual–say, for the sake of argument, a certain Christian Grantham–how would I accomplish that? (I could do it in the old NIT.)

  4. Let me work on that. There is a way to link all posts to an author’s name. You can then take that link and only see that person’s content. You will also be able to have an RSS feed for each author. Let me get back with you on that one.

Thanks for the quick response, but I now realize what I posted wasn’t exactly what I was meaning. I was looking for the aggregator feed of all the individual posts in chronological order from all the blogs on the blogroll.

    Thanks again

No problem. You can find the last 10 chronological posts for all aggregated blogs on the right sidebar of any page (not on indivudal posts yet). Here a little trick. You can see the full post of every blog aggregated here by clicking the “read more” link at the bottom of the blogroll. Here is what you were talking about: http://www.google.com/reader/shared/user/09587544276375478556/label/blog That’s the “read more” link at the botton of the main blogroll.

AHA! Yes, that would be the exact thing I’m looking for; I saw the ‘read more’ link on that page, but just assumed it was listing more of the blogs.

Also, the feed (along with the rest of the site) loads so much faster now. Fantastic job on the update.

    Thank you very much, sir.
