Here’s a quick look at what Tennessee bloggers are saying about Sen. Paul Stanley’s (R-Memphis) affair with an intern.
OK, Just for the sake of argument lets say there are photos of a Stanley affair and it was all true. (I have no knowledge of that one way or the other) Is that illegal? No. While unseemly, he has not broken any legal law. To his credit he went above what many would do and called the cops when being shaken down. I am sure he knew when he did, that it would come out and it would not be pretty. He stood up to the blackmailer and did the right thing anyway. A lesser person would have caved, given the money and hoped it never came out.
From what I can tell, she was married at the time she was having the affair with Stanley. And married at the time the extortionist claims Stanley busted up their beautiful relationship. Check out the links and my uploaded snapshots. It took both Stanley and Morrison to make bad choices. Hey, like I said. I was an intern too. And too many of the interns I served with were more than happy to bed legislators who they very well knew had wives and even children.
Sources tell NashvillePost.com that Stanley was unaware of Morrison’s status during her tenure in his office. According to those same sources, Stanley eventually learned from Morrison of her marriage and her “boyfriend” relationship with Watts, whom she described as “gangster.” Morrison then went on to tell Stanley that she and her husband had been arrested in Florida and that he had “done time.”
I mean, don’t get me wrong. I know there usually is a get-out-of-trouble-free card if you can prove the girl you got in trouble with is a dirty slut. That’s one of the reasons the howling on this thing is so loud. It used to be and often is still the case that a man with a little power and authority could use that to get access to women who otherwise would not give him the time of day and if he crosses the line a little bit, if it becomes more coersion than seduction, he just reveals that she’s a dirty slut and everyone agrees that it was probably just a misunderstanding or that she really wanted it or that she deserved it and life goes on.

Unbelievable. He breaks his marriage vows and reveals himself as a breathtaking moral hypocrite, and Rep. Campfield is complimenting him on his behavior? Truly, the principle of IOKIYAR is in effect (It’s OK If You’re A Republican).
I reckon we all know why the GOPers in the Tennessee General Assembly have not enacted any legislation that would make ADULTERY a criminal offense…
Thinking further about Rep. Stacey Campfield’s defense of Paul Stanley, I expect that if Stanley robbed a bank, hid the cash for months and then surrendered when police surrounded his house, Campfield would praise him for not resisting arrest.
In response to those who think Stanley is being unfairly held to a higher standard than others (such as Democrats) upon learning of his adultery, I suggest that he should be because of his moralistic statements and condemnations of others for failing to meet his moral standards.
Put another way, I would be more outraged if the President of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) was arrested for DUI than if it was someone else. You expect people who crusade against drunk driving to be more careful themselves about doing it.
@biilp You hit the nail on the head. Stanley was a moralistic hypocrite who opposed children being adopted by same sex couples and abstinence only sex education (guess he doesn’t practice what he preaches). It’s the holier-than thou my religion dictates these moral stances position he wears on his sleeve that makes his actions so noteworthy. He lacks one scintilla of moral authority now.
he’s enforced legistlation to BAN gay marriage and BAN gay couples adopting children. he’s a hypocrite. are we surprised?? i mean really! i’m so sick of these republican a$$holes always being such frauds every time. like the senator that lived in the prayer house having a long term affair with his best friend’s wife and mark whatever with the argentinian woman. i mean it’s constant. and then they try to find god again. and david vitter..etc..etc…larry craig. it’s just constant. even ted haggard who is not a politician. i guess the republican base of voters are beyond stupid. they’re flat out pitiful. or are also hypocrites. they ‘re also cheating on their families, laundering money, etc..and don’t care that their policitians do it cause they do too. pathetic. and he SHOULD resign since he’s signed legislation supporting taking away rights from other citizens who aren’t living hypocritical lives. and how gentlemanly of him to trash talk the intern as “dirty” to make himself look better? i guess. what a jacka$$.
One more lying, hypocrite GOP down, and so many more to go. They are out there passing laws on every type of victemless crime, and giving us moral lectures, while privately they are living lives of depravity. These hypocrites, must have trouble keeping the lies that they tell their Republican constituents (often well meaning religious followers) and the depravity that they practice in their personal lives from getting mixed up. Well, due to a more vigilant press and people who no longer will listen to the “do as I say, not as I do,” line, many are being discovered, and driven out of office like rats jumping ship. When will Ensign and Sanford reisgn? They too preached family values. Does not their moral majority party care, as long as it is a Republican doing the adultery and possible misuse of funds to cover up their infidelities?
Why do people keep allowing these adulterers the right to be calling on God now? Did he call on God when he was unzipping his pants? Wonder was he thinking about family values when he was on his knees? The problem with the Rep is that any moral decay is OK in their party it’s just the other guy that is the problem. Then they wonder why the new young voters wouldn’t follow them. Young unmarried people shouldn’t have sex but married people should have sex with everyone. I just wish one of those political wives showed some self respect and dumped them, but I’m beginning to believe they all know about these affairs and condone them–then they don’t have to be bothered.
It appears that some politicians practice the old addage, “Do as I say, not a I DO.” You really have to watch those who are so devout on moral principals and family values. Gives them a bad name huh?
This has become so pervasive, it’s a total cliche: conservative, self-righteous, family-values-spouting, self-appointed moral guardian jesus-freak hypocrite caught with his pants down. I love how the GOP spouts small government, yet then intrudes into the private lives of Americans by telling everyone how they should conduct their personal lives. Funny how the GOP has appointed themselves the supposed experts on how every single American should conduct their private lives…only to show how sleazy and depraved their lives really are. Stanley is in good company though: John Ensign, Mark Sanford, Ted Haggard, Newt Gingrich, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Jim West, etc., etc.. It’s only a matter of time before another GOP nuevo-Taliban religious whacko is caught in another affair.
