Tennessee bloggers talk Health Care Reform

Here is what bloggers from across the state are saying about today’s push for health care reform in America.

A Blessed Mess:

Never forget the power every single one of us has. To quote our President (from a different context yet still relevant), remember “what one voice can do. One voice can change a room; and if a voice can change a room, it can change a city; and if it can change a city it can change a state; and if change a state, it can change a nation; and if it can change a nation, it can change the world!”

Pith in The Wind:

Today, our own Lamar Alexander was one of the 10 Republicans who voted against overhauling health care in the Senate health committee. All 13 Democrats voted for it so it passed anyway in a landmark moment in the party’s efforts to expand health coverage in this country.

Newscoma:

About 30 percent of my friends and immediate family are unemployed right now. Our minds are on that particular issue because it effects us deeply and the fact that many of us don’t have simple things like health care. Yeah, we see people writing about the jobless right now but I haven’t really seen any real solutions. I’m glad gubernatorial candidates raised a boatload of money. Kudos to them.

KnoxViews:

I don’t understand why new taxes on high-income individuals (or the employer penalties) are needed to pay for this. If most individual and group insurance is provided through the exchange and the exchange is managed as a single risk pool, the premiums should pay for the coverage including the affordability credits.

In Session:

Sen. Lamar Alexander joined with other Republicans on the Senate Health, Educations, Labor and Pensions Committee in voting against a health care reform bill.
The bill passed 13-10 on a party line vote. The Senate Finance Committee has yet to vote on the other main Senate bill on health care.

  1. Sevierville Citizen says:

I believe that the people should have the ultimate decision in the Health Care reform. The Government should not be in control of everything! We pay these officials to work “For The People,” not against them. Our president has no right to tell the American people, that disagree, to keep quiet. We have a right to debate! Remember Mr. President: Liberty and Justice FOR ALL!! Not just Government officials!
