(via @RCDP) According to tax lien records posted online, Murfreesboro tea party organizer Christian Hidalgo owes thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes.
Christian Hidaglo hates paying taxes. He hates them so much he organizes local Republicans to protest paying them in what they call Tea Parties. Now documents show the Tea Party organizer owes over $80,000 in state and federal tax liens stretching over a 10-year period.
For several years, Hidalgo has not paid portions of both state and federal taxes, forcing both the state and federal government to spend time and resources to issue several liens against his property and assets. Government authorities can seize property and assets of individuals with liens for unpaid taxes.
From the Tennessee Democratic Party:
“I guess we know now why Mr. Hidalgo is leading the effort to protest taxes,” Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester said of Christian Hidalgo, who owns a Murfreesboro-based marketing and public relations firm. “It’s hard for me to understand how people who don’t pay taxes think they are paying too much.”
Tax records from the Rutherford County Register of Deeds show Hidalgo has been stiffing the IRS for more than a decade. He is not the only local Tea Party organizer who has been dodging tax payments, though.
Recently it was revealed that National Tea Party organizer and Williamson County Republican Michael Patrick Leahy has more than $100,000 in tax liens and court judgments filed against him.

What about Geitner and Daschle? Where were their liens?
Are you surprised? Are you REALLY REALLY surprised?
Well, the dude does hate paying taxes. Can’t say I’m shocked. This hardly discredits him, on the contrary, unlike the Congressmen and Cabinet members who don’t pay their taxes, at least HE isnt’ saying you should pay MORE!
Hey, I’m impressed. A political activit that practices what he preaches. Good for him.
Wouldn’t if be more shocking if they were paying their taxes?
Stupidest quote of the year: “It’s hard for me to understand how people who don’t pay taxes think they are paying too much.”
They aren’t protesting how much tax money they pay, they’re protesting the amount of tax money they are being required to pay. I bet he stays awake at night wondering how people who can’t afford groceries have any right to complain about the rising cost of food.
“It’s hard for me to understand how people who don’t pay taxes think they are paying too much.”
HAHAHAHAHA!
More pwnage of the teabaggers.
Wow..guess now he can move to obama’s cabinet now. Seems to be the only requirement.
Not paying taxes is fine with me, so long as you are not consuming the things those taxes buy. Ie: Roads, education, medicare, sewers and water, protection by our police and military etc etc.
The idea that we should not pay taxes is as stupid as the people that push it. If you want to practice what you are preaching, go live in a tent in the back of beyond. If you are not consuming federal and state resources I am sure they will leave you alone.
Oh, but dont forget, you consume these things even before you get to wage earning age, so things like public education and healthcare should be paid back in full before you load up your tent and start walking into the hills…
TN Democrapic party should enjoy their time in office as they know its limited.. their very own Bart Gordon can send out emails saying how the Govt is way in debt… duh… wow Mr Gordon did you have a bit to do with that a few tarps ago…
to me Christian should get a bail out isn’t that the Obama way..
If it’s okay for the Obama Administration to not pay there taxes, then it should be okay for everyone.
Doesn’t pay taxes. Sounds like an Obama appointee.
Apparently he enjoys the days of dirt roads, no streetlights, education only for the rich, shipments by rail and boat only, no defense, no trash pickup, no cops, no prisons, no representation for poor people, part time governmental representation, unenforceable community standards and cities run by businesses and not government.
The difference between what he’s doing and what frequently happens with government officials ON BOTH SIDES of the political spectrum, is that he is deliberately and knowingly not paying his taxes to spite them. The revenue streams with politicians are so complicated, a) some things get easily missed, and b) when trying to siphon moneys into places that have less tax liability, you rely on tax accountants who don’t always know what they’re doing.
Both are still required to pay up. But Hidalgo’s method is criminal, the other is arguably not.
I’m not sure how a liberal could have an issue with someone not paying taxes. The White House supports that 100%.
But don’t let that stop any of you from continuing his legacy of absurdity…
In response to Bob above: your logic is faulty. You write: “They aren’t protesting how much tax money they pay, they’re protesting the amount of tax money they are being required to pay. I bet he stays awake at night wondering how people who can’t afford groceries have any right to complain about the rising cost of food.”
No, the parallel would be people who don’t use groceries or who steal them doing the complaining. People who can afford neither groceries nor taxes have every right to complain and protest.
It’s a simple concept: if you want the benefits provided by the state, you pay taxes for them. Otherwise, move to the country, live off the land, and shut it…or, move somewhere that does not have taxes. Good luck with that. Organized civic benefits can only come from community funding, which is a tax no matter how you look at it.
Freedom from taxation was not why we fought for independence…in part we fought for freedom from taxation *without representation*. Taxation, in whatever form you might find it, is a necessary part of funding a currency-based society run by a government.
Oh yeah, and let us not forget that the current administration was *voted* in. The people chose, and that is the American way.
I’ll bet when he goes out to eat with friends, he doesn’t contribute to the bill.
Why should he? He is strong and independent. A true American! Fark yeah!
Only socialists contribute to the society in which they live!
I thought it was hilarious when all the “tea baggers” in cincinnati had their little rally, most of the people there were recruited by their “GOP” icons to protest issues that wouldn’t even affect them, but their Lord and Savior Rush Limbaugh said “Get out there and do it!” so they did.
Protesting financial issues that wouldn’t hit them or their families, but would make their GOP figureheads sad. After all raping the american citizens for 8 years puts a LOT of cash in the coffers, and those taxes alone rival the GDP of 3rd world countries.
If the higher taxes proposed inconvienince you in any way,.STFU..the scales have been shifted in the opposite direction for about 10 years now, you should have taken advantage of it (and probably did) then. It’s not a hobbling or an unfair hit in any way, it’s taking away a massive unfair advantage you had in the past and making it only slighly less so, the tables and tax laws/breaks/discounts/millions of ways to write EVERYTHING off, STILL favor big and medium businesses to the point that if you can’t exploit them you’re too stupid to be in business anyway.
If you follow the money back to the main organizers of almost all the major teaparty groups it goes back to people who were willing to spend TENS OF MILLIONS to do “get the word out” and make sure these little uneducated sound-bite gatherings happened.
If you have that much money to fetter away on making GOP lemmings mill about pushing your personal wishes, you’re the kind of person who needs to feel the pinch all the other people have been feeling for the last decade. And if you’re going to plant a “Joe the plumber” to make yourself seem like your issues “touch the lives or normal people” at least be smart enough to get a guy who can pass a simple press background investigation.
Taxes is an institution implemented by the U.S. Government to take money that YOU HAVE EARNED, and steal it to pay for services/programs that in many cases are geared toward wasteful spending practices. When I earn my money, I expect to KEEP MY MONEY. Anyone who believes paying taxes is the American way is ill informed and delusional. It goes back to the “dumbing down” of America’s citizens, and the reasons for the meltdown of our society. At least there a few true Americans who practice a policy of “fighting back” against big brother. As Barry Goldwater once stated: “A government big enough to give you what you want is also big enough to take it all away.” Enough said!
just by random selection, a tea protester was audited by the IRS. lol
I think the word we’re searching for is “criminal”. He’s a criminal and should be punished. A few months in a federal PMITA prison should do the trick. Tea Bagger or not, this guy should have paid up.
What’s really funny about the original tea party was that it was not about a Tax increase. It was about a Tax Decrease to the Walmart of the day, the East India Company. That’s right, England cut the taxes on the big corporation, but not on the little guys. The little guys got pissed and dumped the tea that belonged to the corporation in the water. So when they make reference to the original Tea party, and how it was so wonderful, what they are really calling for is a tax increase on corporations.
I don’t know that they don’t pay taxes and then avail themselves from the taxes of others. It may be that they pay some taxes and not others, covering their own costs but not paying for entitlements. I’ve noticed a recent shift from the financial health of the common man toward the financial health of government. It’s a disgusting shift.
If the tea party members don’t want to pay their taxes, don’t pay them.
But they should be sent off to some 3rd world country like Somali, since the rest of the United States doesn’t need to support more moochers.
The US doesn’t need any more slackers, take away the citizenship rights of the elitist crybaby and give it to an immigrant that is willing to work for a living and pay his own way.
If you don’t want to pay taxes, or think taxes are too high, then you are not in full support of our troops. Where do you think most of out taxes go? Defense spending. So if you like being an American, protected by oceans full of missle cruisers, nuclear aircraft carriers, sky’s full of F-22’s, f-18’s, seals, recons, rangers, Apache’s, etc. etc. etc., then you need to stfu and pay your GD taxes! Fu@king crybabies!
It’s a common mistake.
You’re a common mistake.
Sounds like a conscientious objector who walks his talk.
Our Founding Fathers would have been proud.
$80,000?
That’s still less than our current Treasury Secretary owed.
Perhaps Obama can appoint him to a post or as a czar? Seems like everyone he appoints owes something.
“Where do you think most of out taxes go? Defense spending.”
LOL! Um….. no.
Most goes to entitlement payments, that is, Social Sec, Medicare, Medicaid, wealth redistributions, etc….
Military spending is MUCH less than that.
Go read a book!
He owes less than than our Treasury Secretary did before being nominated. Perhaps he can get a job in the Obama admin.
Hooray for the police state! Watch out citizens- if you speak out the Dems will make your financial life public- just like they did to Joe the Plumber. Instead of addressing the issues they choose to attack the people.
feklar, this should be a warning to those who don’t pay their taxes. If you want to break the law or not pay your taxes or whatever you personally feel is no one else’s business, the public documents that tell the truth will tell the truth. Let this also be a lesson to everyone that hiding your publicly documented problems is no longer an option.
We live in a different era where light wins over the darkness. Do the right thing. Be honest. Act fair, and you shouldn’t have a problem. Do as you please and not as you say and fall on the flaming sword of truth for all to see.
How about:
Government ( regardless of party ) wants us to protest taxes to do the IRS’s job a lot easier.
Tea Baggers = tax dodgers = investigations = more liens and jail time.
wake up ppl
Yes “truth”, we live in a different era, all government all the time.I do not believe it is patriotic to pay taxes.Doing the right thing often is not in the government’s best interest.I’ve realized over the last 40 years and through reading a ton of history more often than not what is in the government’s best interest is not that good for the public it is supposedly representing.
What a nice hit piece. Quoting the democratic party, without any rebuttal. This is a one side, journalistic joke. The publisher, I’m sure, is member in good standing from the party of treason.
I was a fan of the Tea party. It was a well-organized pointed demonstration. It drew people focused on a specific cause regardless of who organized or promoted it. The press interviews were with those that showed up to protest. Wheather their opinions were informed or crazed they were given the voice.
The US Armed forces have spent more US taxpayers money in overseas opperations in the last 7 years than, Unemployment Security Programs have spent in the last 15, more than Social Security has spent in the course of the Social Security Program, or the WPA spent building the America we live in today. The Military is not normally a major tax draw but when it goes into action it more than makes up for it’s normally low costs. If you imagine that paying taxes to keep the country functioning isn’t patriotic, what exactly is?

It is funny how many liberals on here like to talk about “teabaggers”, when that is a total put down to one of their natural constituencies the homos. It is good they aren’t smart enough to know that, so they can give me a laugh beyond the hypocrisy of crying about a businessman who has some IRS problems when half their messiahs cabinet are tax cheats……If their is a dumber animal on the planet than a liberal, we have not found it yet.
This is Christian and thanks to all of the unbelievable support I’ve received due to this vicious, personal attack. For the record I’ve done nothing criminal and I’ve never said I shouldn’t have to pay taxes. I’m not a tax evader nor am I running for office. I’m simply a community organizer. I own a business, we had some substantial accounting errors which resulted in us not paying some of our taxes. As soon as it was brought to my attention I paid what I could and then entered into an installment agreement with the IRS which I have faithfully paid with massive penalties and interest. Because I could not pay all of it immediately the IRS put tax liens on me. If you have ever dealt with the IRS you understand. If you have never owned or ran a business you have no clue. I am involved in the Tea Party movement which believes our government (Red and Blue) is out of control. The Dems in Rutherford County attacked me because they want to shut me up. They have attacked my business as well by developing this site - dumpnavigationadvertising.com - in an attempt to destroy my livelihood. I’ve never personally attacked Obama or Gordon, only their policies. All of you that believe in Freedom of Speech should be very angry at the Rutherford County Democratic Party for trying to destroy a private citizen (who happens to owe back taxes) for being involved in civic discourse. Keep up the good work! Look forward to reading more from you in the future. I think it will be also nice if you add “send to email” tool so people can forward the articles to their friends easily.
