Morning Browser: CCA 360 - Corrections Corporation of America
(via Hispanic Notebook) The Corrections Corporation of America is not happy with the media, and their new website, CCA 360, isn't hiding it.
CCA 360 will confront "news accounts that rely on sources who are politically or professionally biased against the overall privatization of our nation’s prisons." Translation: reality has a well known liberal bias, and CCA 360 is tired of it.
On one hand, the CCA 360 website reads like an angry old man who just figured out how to send his unpublished letters to the editor in an email to all his friends. On the other, it's almost like reading letters from a prison inmate swearing on a stack of Bibles that they didn't do it.
Here are some of the highlights of CCA's anger toward the Tennessean in particular.
- Unlike many blogs, "so-called" informational Web sites or news outlets that purport to cover or report objectively on the private prison industry and Corrections Corporation of America, the content here does not reflect a narrow agenda or view point.
- Question: Who is Alex Friedmann? Answer: A Not So Reliable Media Source.
- It’s difficult to separate the facts from the reported myths about private prisons and CCA, especially if you follow some news accounts that rely on sources who are politically or professionally biased against the overall privatization of our nation’s prisons.
- Despite these repeated, public denials by the CCA official managing Quality Assurance, The Tennessean never corrected its coverage nor reported on these repeated, public, and detailed denials. It assailed CCA's reputation (and that of its General Counsel) with its front-page headline, and then walked away.
- When a news organization publishes information that it knows or should know to be false, it is hard to characterize such publication decisions as arising from anything other than malice toward CCA and its employees.

It's interesting how little of this has shown up on the anti Puryear and Who Killed Estelle sites? I wonder if Tennesseans Against Puryear has seen this?
