Morning Browser: eye of the political storm
JoeCase snapped this photo of sunrise on his morning commute noting the old saying "red skies in morning, sailors warning."
Could today be the day that Obama clears the air of the widespread guessing game as to who he will select to be his Vice President?
Nearly every paper across the country has at one time or another presented reason to believe it would be their state's rising star. This morning, pundits are all but sure they've narrowed it down to the only possibilities, and local bloggers have mostly parroted media speculation, including seriously suggesting our own Governor Phil Bredesen was a contender. Reality is now the eye of the storm.

But if he has anything left of the Barack Obama who ignited a movement and not just a run for office, he'll put Hillary Clinton on the ticket, not a safe white guy.I'm not a fan of the Clintons, but Hillary garnered 18 million votes, and is clearly someone who can attract voters Obama can't. While I think some Hillary supporters are going overboard by trying to cut off their noses to spite their faces by saying they'll vote for McCain, the more rational supporters have a legitimate beef to pick about Hillary, from her bad treatment in the media to her supporters being ignored. Unfortunately, the nut cases drown out the rational voices, which need to be heard.

There will be plenty of people who are going to be angry tomorrow (at least, we hope the announcement will be tomorrow). But we're electing a President, not a VP. I honestly can't see Obama allowing his VP to have the level of power and influence Dick Cheney had. It's time to stop with the hand-wringing and get this show on the road.

Now, Caroline Kennedy is someone I could get behind. She has a strong knowledge of the US Constitution, a strong supporter of woman’s rights, and a strong supporter of human rights. Having Caroline Kennedy as VP would definitely mobilize the party towards unity.

But hey what does Ralph Nader know? Twenty-eight percent of Hillary's primary voters still say no way Obama. Hillary is the number one preference of delegates to the Democratic convention, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll of said delegates. CNN's poll of polls reports that Obama's lead has been cut in half, and most polls show McCain and Obama in a dead heat. Major Obamabot David Gergen is stressing on CNN about Obama's apparent inability to fight like Hillary Clinton. Gergen, who rarely had a kind word for Hillary during the primary, now thinks "Hillary Clinton looks better and better," because "He definitely needs a fighter by his side."You, and the netroots, should have thought of that sooner, Gergen.

Marc Ambinder has confirmation that despite Obama campaign claims to the contrary, Ken Whitehouse's reporting is correct that the Senator from Illinois plans an event in Evansville, IN on Saturday, boosting speculation that Cap'n Exciting, Evan Bayh, is most likely going to be picked as Obama's Vice Presidential running-mate.
