Texas Delegate Anne Price Mills: Message to Obama
Last night's convention speeches culminated with Hillary Clinton asking her supporters to keep fighting for the people that she fought for by supporting Barack Obama for President. But it was an impromptu interview with Texas delegate Anne Price Mills that illustrates to the Obama campaign the challenge they face in folding in supporters of Hillary Clinton.
The Obama campaign and supporters now have two choices and two months to get where either leads. They can slap silly labels on people like Mrs. Mills and dismiss her support or they can listen to where Mrs. Mills is in the remaining two months and show they want to win by reaching out to her. Hillary Clinton has done everything she can to make a compelling case for the choices voters face in November. For good or ill, there are still people in America who support Hillary for Hillary the same as there are millions of people who support Obama simply for who he is instead of what he believes. For the next two months, it is up to no one but Barack Obama and his supporters to demonstrate the kind of leadership that gets things done in Washington by first winning an election with a base of support that breaks through that dynamic to include people like Mrs. Mills.
Uncommitted Hillary Clinton supporters also have two choices before them. They can vote for John McCain or stay home and cast a vote for John McCain from the most comfortable chair in the house. Elections are about choices, and none are greater for the American people than who we choose as a nation to lead us for four years. Unlike selfish politicians in the past like Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart and others who brought their bitter battles to the convention floor and gave Republicans victories that plunged our nation into record deficit spending, Hillary Clinton has asked her supporters to make this about the people that motivated her to run. For Hillary supporters, it's time to think less about a political primary loss and put the profound personal loses of the American people over the past 8 years first in November.

Anne Price Mills
I know that I am late but I had to comment on this. When I saw her on T.V. I was truly disappointed in her. I can respect her being for being a Hillary supporter but she needs to realize what this race means for African Americans and how that looks on national television. I am African American female who is a strong Obama supporter for several reasons but It made me upset that she said that she was not going vote when I was sitting next to my great grandfather, who at one point in his life went through so much to gain the right to vote because of his race. We as African Americans have made history this year and like Obama said it is time for a change in this country. Ms. Mills I respect you as a Hillary supporter but please remember that you are an African American first then a female. That is how this country will view you and treat you and will continue to do that if we dont change it now.
Regarding Mrs Mills.
Although I don't begrudge anyone for feeling defeated because Hillary didn't win the nomination, I just had a huge problem with some of what Mrs Mills was saying during her emotional rant.
She kept saying that "we have come so far...to get the right to vote..." etc. Who is "WE"? In this case she was talking about "we women". Does she know that she is a Black woman?
I am a black woman in America. I was born in 1962 so I have been here a long time and have experienced some major events and major changes in our country. I must say that I was truly inspired by both women, Michelle and Hilary. I felt proud to be a BLACK woman when Michelle spoke, then I felt proud to be an AMERICAN WOMAN when Hilary spoke. She's right, women have gone through major struggles to get the right to vote, but nothing compares to the struggle that black people have gone through to have the right to exist!!!!!!!!!
How dare a black women cry for Hillary and not even acknowledge the historic event that is about to take place with the first black man being nominated as President. How dare she cry about the struggles of WOMEN in America and conveniently forget the struggles of BLACK WOMEN, MEN,....PEOPLE in America!
Rosa Parks needed to sit down on the bus. She was tired. This was a woman who had no place to sit. If a white woman had gotten on the same bus and wanted to sit down, anywhere, she could have. Rosa Parks was arrested for sitting down in the WHITE SECTION of the bus. She was not arrested for being a WOMAN...no...she was arrested for being BLACK! Did Mrs. Mills forget that? Although the struggles of women in this country are far reaching and extremely important to acknowledge, the true struggles of black people are even more far reaching. In the eyes of America, I am conceived as a black person before I am conceived as a woman.
I remember the scene in THE COLOR PURPLE when the Mayor's wife asked Sophia if she wanted to come be her maid, and Sophia answered "HELL NO!" The Mayor then walked across the street and slapped her. She hit the Mayor back and the police then came and knocked Sophia in the head with the back of his gun. What I gathered from this scene, as far as how that era was, is that not only did women have some struggles, if you were black, you were no longer treated like someone of the female species. They knocked her out like as if she were a man!
Dorothy Dandridge was told that she couldn't use certain bathrooms in the theater where she was performing...that rule wasn't enforced because she was a WOMAN. It was because she was a BLACK PERSON.
All women should stand up and cheer for Hillary Clinton for the way she destroyed that allusive glass ceiling. As a woman, I feel so empowered and I celebrate her accomplishment and what she has done for me and female generations to come. But BARAK OBAMA has affected me way more deeply. Imagine a Black ANYTHING being nominated for President. Especially being as credible, viable, brilliant, and qualified as Barak. His being black is just the icing on the cake! I felt so proud to see that beautiful black woman, Michelle, with those beautiful black children at her side, in support of their soon to be Black President father. Yes I'm proud to be a woman, but I am way more proud to be a BLACK woman!
I just wonder why she couln't at least celebrate this major history taking place. If she had done that, she couldn't have cried all she wanted.
Bottom line, I fear that Mrs. Mills is not just a Hillary supporter, I think she is a Hillary fanatic.
Most Obama supporters would have supported Hillary!
I truly don't believe that most Obama supporters would have been so devistated as this woman. Most of us are in awe of the fact that a black man has gotten so far as to be CONSIDERED to be the presidential nominee! No, not because he is black, but because he is brilliant and his plan for change is crystal clear! (remember Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? No one understood a word of what they said, and they weren't viable or credible.) No, we don't support Obama just because of "who" he is, it's because of what he's presenting for our country. We are seriously motivated because of HOW he presents it!
My point to the Hillary supporters is this: Before Obama made that remarkable speech in Iowa, a lot of us weren't behind him. We were behind the most obvious choice, Hillary. We started watching and listening to what he was saying. We were motivated by how he said it, and his passion behind what he proposed to do for change. If he hadn't won, we would have rallied behind Hillary like most of us were going to do in the first place. Read the blogs around the internet from the Obama supporters and you'll see how many of us praised Hillary and commended her for her amazing run. We love her too. We just believe in what Obama can do more!
Personally, I was NOT expecting for him to win. My friends, neighbors, co-workers, family, etc. were all pulling for him, and we were SHOCKED and awed when he did win.
What history we are witnessing!

Like a pack of ravenous wolfs you people jump and ravage any among your own pack who starts to make a little common since. As long as Obama can keep the music going no one has to stop and take a good long look at why he will loose. As one entertainer to another, Barrack, let me give you a little advice. When campaign is over and the music stops. You’d better exit stage left and I mean with all speed. Otherwise they will jump you like they did Ann Price Mills. Just like Barrack Obama I know just how to play your your strings. Not a one of you have a clue until the hypnotic music stops. And believe me I don’t what to be there when it does. LOL
shut the f*** up
This is a damn shame that people like some of you are mad because she is not voting for who you want. What she said was not bad and all you guys cryinglike babies need to shut the [bleep] up. I am obama supporter and you know what, I do not think what she said should get all you guys in the hot seat. Suck your [bleep] up and [bleep] off and leave her alone and you know what I am not scared to say this THAT IS MY SISTER, my real life sister and you guys are all on some other stuff to be ranting about something that she does not believe in. If you know our man is going to win and got what he needs then do that and support him back off and shut the [bleep] up.
Shut the f*** up
Your anger is understandable if you are in fact her sister but she like every other voter in Texas that does vote for McCain will be lost in the electoral college vaccum. This is really about your sister being a DELEGATE to the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION and responding in an intelligent manner when asked who she would vote for and why. Her comment about experience in regards to the respective candidates is a reach. Frankly, Barack Obama does not have to spend a second trying to further convince her that he should get her vote because her vote will not matter. She stated she would not vote for McCain. Someone should have pulled your sister aside and told her that she was going to be on worlwide TV and to give some thought to her role as a DELEGATE after being told by her candidate to support the only real choice she has in this election.
Love her
Nefratiti3, I love your sister. My partner feels exactly like her right now. but girlfriend...
What if things had been different?
When my husband told me about this woman last night, I thought the same thing many of you did, that this woman is CRAZY and missed the message. Then I thought about it.... and if I am being really honest, I understand where she is. I have been an Obama supporter from the very beginning, I have always felt that he stands for a sense of unity and purpose for this country that as much as I respect Hillary as a politician, I do not feel she would have been able to deliver. If she had won the nomination, I definitely would not be a supporter. Not to say I would not eventually vote for her, but I would not support her as I have supported Barack. For him I have made donations, called voters in battleground states, truly participated in the process. For her... not so much. Part of it is because I am not a "staunch democrat" and tend to vote for specific candidates and/or issues rather than down party lines, the other part is because I understand as do many of those folks that have been truly involved since the beginning that Hillary and Barack are not the same and therefore not interchangeable. I hope the Barack and his campaign can respect and understand that true Clinton supporters will not become true Barack supporters just on the basis of a few speeches, no matter how moving and even when given by her. They need time, they need cultivating. While I do think most of them will in the end vote Obama, it should not be assumed and it should be understood that their votes will be hard to earn.
Outrage
I am in utter disbelief that this woman could go on national television, CNN at that, during a HISTORICAL moment for so many people, recognize that the right to vote has not always been free for women as well as African Americans, and has the AUDACITY to fix her lips as a democrat to say she may not vote?!?! And did she really say she's not sure about his resume?? Give me a break lady! And when McCain gets elected and put in office and she doesn't get her tax break because she doesn't make $250,000+, then who's to blame? This lady should have kept that all to herself, I almost couldn't sleep last night nor did anybody I spoke with that had the displeasure of witnessing this asinine individual miss the WHOLE point of Hillary's speech. I hope Hillary finds this woman and personally makes sure she does not hold ANY privileged positions again, even manager at McDonalds!
Anne Price Mills
The so-called democrat Anne Price Mills should be banned from taking part in the Democratic Convention.
She gave a million dollar ad for McCain right after Hillary gave a historic party-unifying speech, and in the process, partly destroyed the moment for CNN watching Hillary supporters who are actually democrats, unlike her.
If she would be working for a company and would do that much damage to her workplace, she would get fired on the spot. The same rule should apply to the democratic convention and her taking part in the election process of the DNC.
missed the message?
What is the deal with three separate commenters all saying, in precisely these words, that Ms. Mills "missed the message"? Is she meant to be some sort of automaton who mindlessly obeys The Message? Apparently the only good Democrat is a sheep-like Democrat. Baaaaaaa!
Ann P Mills - Willie Lynch's #1 cheerleader!
I was moved to tears of shame at what Ann Price Mills had to say last night following Mrs. Clinton's speech. Yes Ms. Mills missed the message and oh my goodness to say that she may not vote, how she could open her mouth to say such a thing. Did she not hear the message that Mrs. Clinton shared with all of us, her supporters as well as Mr. Obama's supporters. This was a call to our entire party. A call to unify and this message was totally lost on Ms. Mills and I would say that its perhaps because Ms. Mills is a direct result of the Willie Lynch....
Taken from how to make a slave - Ms. Mills obviously lives today in 2009 with a slave mentality.......
"Continually through the breaking of uncivilized savage Negros, by throwing the negro female savage into a frozen psychological state of independence, by killing of the protective male image, and by creating a submissive dependent mind of the negro male slave, we have created an orbiting cycle that turns on its own axis forever, unless a phenomenon occurs and re shifts the position of the male and female slaves. We show what we mean by example. Take the case of the two economic slave units and examine them close"
Ms. Mills please shake the slave mentality and see the message that it is time for a change for all of us!!!!!!!!!!!
Ann Price Mills
What is wrong with this woman? I do not understand how she missed the message again. The democratic process is a belief and ideal that this country fights for in other countries! It is our foundational belief! Hillary Clinton lost the fight for the democatic nomination fair and square. NO, the speech we heard from Hillary Clinton was not a presidential speech because she is not the democratic presidential nominee. I am embarrassed for this woman. She showed such passion and emotion and for what? I wonder if she's just as passionate about the jobless rate in this country, the housing crisis, high oil prices, and the war in Iraq? I want to give her the benefit of the doubt but I can not! Did she miss the part of Hillary's speech where she asked her delegates and supporters if they were in the race for her or for the party itself? This race is not about Hillary Clinotn and for those who want to make it a personal issue, grow up! That woman was pouting and crying about a non issue and if she chooses not to vote in Novemember, then she's a bigger fool that she portrayed herself to be.
Walkerman1 - you said it
Walkerman1 - you said it best! she is a fool!
Anne Price Mills
Everyone in this country has a right to his or her own opinion, but this woman, totally missed the message. A message about change, a message about cultural divide and unity. A message that speaks to our struggles and successes, a message about honesty and dignity and honor; coming from a candidate who has already proven his worth, by the choices which he has made in his own life, and the life of others. The reason why Hillary's message came accross so splendly, is simply because she emulated Senator Obama. How can anyone ignore the fact that Senator Obama is at least asgood of a choice as Hillary Clinton?
To become tearful, because Hillary Clinton will not make it to the White House this term, is a bit obnoxious, and pretentious, and in my opinion, Ms. Price was putting on a show. She demonstrates the same kind of selfish attitude of President George Bush and John McCain; they are for the rich and the wealthy, and she is for women only. America is made up of all kinds of people, women, men, young girl’s young boys, black people, white people, rich people and poor people. Ms. Price, THIS RACE IS NOT ABOUT GENDER AND IT IS NOT ABOUT YOUR LOVE, FOR HILLARY CLINTON. It is about CHANGE; it's time that you take a fresh look at your future and the future of America.
