Sarah Palin Unleashed: from Hockey Mom to Pitbull
"You know, they say the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick." With that, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin unleashed her sassy inner pitbull on America last night, attacking everyone from the media to community organizers who threaten to stand in the way of her party's pipeline into your heart.
You can listen to or read the transcript of her speech here, but here are some gems.
Mayors vs. Community Organizers
I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening.
Former anchor vs. Media Elite
But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion. I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people
Terrorists vs. SUVs
With Russia wanting to control a vital pipeline in the Caucasus, and to divide and intimidate our European allies by using energy as a weapon, we cannot leave ourselves at the mercy of foreign suppliers.
To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies ... or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia ... or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries ... we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas.
And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: We've got lots of both.

It doesn't take that long to see through bullsh..
It doesn't take that long to see through bullsh.. when you've been watching it on TV for the last 8 years. It becomes so easy to recognize. And please, most of us Democrats are normal, non-feces throwing concerned citizens. We just don't want to live in the early 1900s anymore. And it is not coming from Howard Dean, or fear of a "pit bull." The response above came from me; a Georgia born, college educated, Christian, stay-at-home-mom of two beautiful boys (both of whom play ice hockey), who is way more afraid of living another 4 years under the same oppressive regime, than a woman who proudly supports a party which will probably pay her less than all the other Vice-Presidents before her.
If having a college education, and actually being knowledgeable about the current issues facing our country is elitist, then thanks so much for the compliment. Obviously my parents hard work and sacrifice to put me through college has also put me in the elite regard of someone. Fabulous!
Hockey Mom for Solutions and Obama!
I can't believe the Republicans think she's a good candidate for VP just because she's a "smart-ass." I'm a much better "smart-ass" than her.
But really, I truly don't understand how any intelligent woman can vote for, or be a part of a ticket, of a man who voted against equal pay for women. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all. Votes like that will only insure that a woman's position on the job will never equal that of a man's, no matter what "glass-ceiling" has been cracked. It is outrageous that we are even still having this debate. There should be no question. Everyone should get paid the same amount for the same job or there should be serious consequences to the company...period.
I also don't understand how she could speak as the candidate for VP of the US, and not talk about the issues facing our country. I really do think that she and John McCain are living in some sort of fantasy land, or is it just serious denial? What about healthcare, the environment, our failing economy, our public education system, the ridiculous debt we face (thanks to GWBush), our abysmal reputation throughout the world (again, thanks to GWB), serious poverty facing too many of our citizens, our Social Security issues, and let's not forget our little 10 billion dollar issue in Iraq (not to mention Afghanistan). I heard her mention 2 of these things, Iraq and how Dems will raise taxes (which is only true of the top 5% of the population - how many of us fall into that category?).
The republicans may think she has the experience because she was mayor and governor, but she obviously has no knowledge of what's going on in the lower 48 (what Alaskan's call the rest of the US).
I trust the women of America to know that this woman IS NOT Hillary! She does not stand for the issues of women, she seems to stand with the people who continually vote against women. We are too smart to vote for the republicans just because they put a woman on the ticket. Shame on McCain for pandering!
And just a quick question for anyone out there. I only counted about 5-6 minorities in the whole audience during the news coverage. Doesn't that scare anyone? I'm white, and it scares the crap out of me that there were mostly old, white men and a few white women there. Is that what they think America looks like? Let's try and get the republican convention to join the rest of us in the REAL USA. The one that has proudly been called the "Melting Pot."
Elitist Lefties
How long did it take you to scour every frame of Sarah Palin's speech to find these? It looks like the left hasn't slept at all since Sarah slapped them around. They are taking marching orders directly from Howard Dean through their little blackberries. Portray her as a pit bull with lip stick and scare voters into thinking she'll bit them? It was the Democrats that tried to throw excrement and urine on this blessed family when they tried to get into that arena last night. They got arrested. They are the ones carting around bags of their own feces and trying to smear it on Sarah Palin.
