The Bush Economy in Recession

That part of your gut that knew better than President Bush when it came to the economy's fundamental strength just got validated today. It turns out the economy wasn't doing a heck of a job afterall and has been in recession since last year.

Call it your inner "B" student's intuition. After seven years of the best conservative fiscal policy our nation had to offer, the record speaks for itself.

  • A year of recession - the Bush legacy - TennesseeFree
This will put to rest any silly claims that the US is not in a recession, It has now been officially confirmed by the National Bureau of Economic Research that the US has been in a recession since Dec. ‘07.

  • It’s official. The economy is in a Melancholy - Rex Hammock
Having observed the coverage of the current economic crisis, meltdown and worst economy since the Great Depression, I feel certain that the coverage of today’s numbers will point towards something a lot worse than merely another two months of Recession. And I’m sure that some people will call me ridiculous if I suggest we’ve already hit the bottom (as in, “the end of the definition of what is officially “the end” of a Recession). So I’ll merely predict this: I believe the Recession is nearing its end. I believe that we were actually heading out of it on September 15 and it has been extended and exacerbated because of the hyper-coverage of the economy during the past three months.

  • Oh, look! - Jim Voorhies
I was right. It’s a recession, and it started back in December of last year. It’s now official. (That it’s a recession, that is.) Has anyone told Phil Valentine yet?

Bad New$

There is a segment of our populace that must have bad new$. They must hear it, whine about it, beg for something to be done about it and then speak poorly of those who choose not to listen exclusively to it. Shame on you.
If we were in a recession for the last year, somebody forgot to send out invitations. Seasonal retail sales have yet to reflect that. Every time I hear a news story about increased Christmas season spending, it includes an interview with someone who can not afford to buy enough groceries. Why is that relevant to such a story? Because that segment of people I mentioned earlier won't otherwi$e li$ten. It $ell$ new$paper$ and adverti$ement$.
