Back then, it was common for political speeches to take hours - much like Gov. Bill Clinton’s first speech at the Democratic convention long ago. It is still for us the living to be dedicated to finishing what began there, that this government of the people, by the people and for the people shall not perish from the earth. With malice towards none, with charity for all - hardly the mantra of either party these days but definitely not Lincoln’s.
