It is perhaps true that there is little America or any of its European allies could do to oust Russia from  South Ossetia.  And thus many have remarked that since against a nuclear-armed Russia, NATO can do nada, why extend the false promise of alliance to Georgia?  Let’s save that debate for another time.

This week marks the 63rd anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on the civilian populations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 9th, 1945 at 11:01am the United States of America dropped a nuclear bomb on a pre-designated city in Japan killing 80,000 people in the second of two nuclear attacks.

Say what you will about him being a crazy religious bastard, and perhaps he can't be believed, but I wish there was an American politician that would point out the simple truth that in the last 60 years nuclear weapons have done nothing but expend billions upon billions of dollars (4 trillion+ according to some estimates) on technology that will, in most likelihood, never be used.
