I realize that Adam Smith is/was not a God. Nor was he an irrefutable figure to be revered and put on a pedestal. And yes, I realize economic science has come a long way since The Wealth of Nations, and you’re more than welcome to disagree with the following quote. I am mostly just putting this up here for my own reference (since my blog is my backup brain).

At one point when I was a teenager, I began referring to my house as a "crib." If I liked something, it was "dope," (prompting a hasty room search by my "rents"). I gave "mad props" to my "homies" on a regular basis. I listened "fresh," "fly" beats on my stereo. In short, I sounded like I had lost my mind.

For huge numbers of New Orleans residents, this is far too little delivered way too late. Much of the damage has long since been done to the folks in New Orleans shortly after Katrina made landfall on August 29th, 2005.

Many who are homeless work but don't earn enough to pay rent.

This is true in damned near every city across the nation right now and the answer is remarkably simple, really - subsidize rents for those earning less than x amount of money per year, with that amount to be determined based on market rate rents in individual areas....<
