Hurricane Ike is out in the Gulf of Mexico, gaining strength, and moving (albeit, slowly) toward Texas.  Latest indications are he will hit somewhere between Corpus Christi and Brownsville on Saturday.

It doesn’t look good for my outdoor weekend plans. I was planning on spending most of Saturday and Sunday outside taking out tree stumps, killing some weeds, mowing, weedeating, and generally cleaning shop. And Katie is going to spend the weekend horseshowing.

Today was gorgeous across Tennessee. A few locations had thunderstorms break-out earlier, however most have moved south and east of our state.

Taking a look at our 7-day forecast, I wonder if it can get any better? We're looking at lower 70's today, middle 70's on Tuesday and Wednesday and UPPER 70's by Thursday with only a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.

We had more than 1/2" of rain overnight here in Middle Tennessee. No rumbles of thunder were heard here at my home. I do expect a chance of showers later today as a cold front approaches from the west. Rainfall amounts shouldn't amount to much with frontal passage, but we will keep an eye on things.

Knox Co. early voting update

News reports put yesterday's Knox Co. early voting turnout at an impressive 5101, bringing the total to 21,445.

With two more days of early voting (today and tomorrow, Thursday Jan. 31st) and additional centers and extended hours and a decent weather forecast, we are revising our total primary turnout projection up sharply to 61,000, with a possibility of it going as high as 75,000 to 82,000.
