There's something about this place that has been calling me. Maybe it's the bread from Silke's, a bakery in my hometown, Clarksville. Is it the name "Mitchell"? It's my mother's maiden name, whose own mother is German, as is Silke. The fact that they procure the best of everything, from bread to meat to cheese to vegetables from their garden?

Knoxville, TN: It's commonly said to have more restaurants per capita than any other major city in the nation. The home of the ol' alma mater was not exactly a place of culinary awakening for this small-town girl, however. When I was 18, I was already familiar with most everything the Sysco truck had to offer.

I finally--finally!--made it over to the Veggie Cafe for lunch this week. It's quite a haul from West Nashville to their location in Inglewood, but this all vegetarian/vegan enterprise is something I certainly want to support. Though I almost missed it since I didn't see a sign. But that's not really the point of this post.
