I was most impressed at the lightspeed response by the media and internet folks to John McCain's announcement of his pick for the Vice President spot, one Sarah Palin, the current governor of Alaska, who is two years into her first term.

Barack Obama just won the Democratic nomination for President of the United States by acclamation.  Hillary Clinton did an OUTSTANDING job in her speech last night to the point that I am back to wishing they’d been on a joint ticket.  She really wow’d.  Both of these events made me happy.

I’m not misty-eyed about this. I honestly expect that the crack[bleep] SUV demographic will get its way, and that if it turned out that you could fill up a truck on babies’ blood, people would gladly sign on. But it won’t stop the desert from sweeping in to reclaim Vegas.

I think we Americans have become a whiny, selfish bunch. 

If something goes bad in our life it's not our fault.  It's someone else' fault.  And we are always the victim of something, never the victimizer.  Why is that? I don't remember it being that way when I was a young man in my twenties.
