Willie Baker, former mayor of Mt. Pleasant, was indicted Tuesday on charges of sexual battery.

Baker, 76, was charged with sexual battery and sexual battery by an authority figure, a Class C felony, according to the indictment.

MT. PLEASANT — City Manager Richard Goode Tuesday released the resumes of the four applicants for the position of public works director.

Two of the candidates had applied to be city manager. All had management experience at chemical or wastewater plants. One of the initial five applicants withdrew his name from consideration. The Herald requested the resumes June 20.

State floats loan for sewage lagoon

MT. PLEASANT — The state agreed Monday to provide a multi-million dollar loan to the city for its ongoing wastewater lagoon project.

The $3.1-million loan will be used for Phase II of the lagoon system, which includes a spray and irrigation field and will give Mt. Pleasant the capacity to treat 1.5-million gallons of sewage a day.
