The Senate GOP, even though it is in the minority, recently blocked a travesty of a global warming bill that would have represented a massive tax and regulatory increase on the American people for absolutely no good reason at all.

The American Geophysical Union's latest position statement states that if global warming of "2 degrees Celsius warming" above the levels of the 19th century "is to be avoided, then our net annual emissions of carbon dioxide must be reduced by more than 50 percent within this century.”

That global warming has become such a contentious and controversial issue baffles me. On one hand, I’m not sure why some people put so much energy into denying that global warming exists or that human activity is in any way responsible for it. On the other hand, I’m not sure why global warming has become the focal point of the environmental movement.
