Seems to me they’d rather have her there than not. That way, if Palin crashes and burns, they will have a scapegoat.

The Tennessean has an article today about an effort by the Highway Safety Office to have a targeted ad campaign towards spanish-speaking drivers about the ills of drunk driving. While some seem to think that a person's Federal immigration status causes car accidents, the people who matter understand that it is drunk driving that is the problem, and that should be combated.
