I'm not knocking it; the program has helped zillions of folks get a grip on their addictions, but I couldn't get behind the "higher power" philosophy, no matter how they tried to open it to include any God-figure. I've not kept it a secret that I have been in Methadone maintenance treatment for a number of years. Methadone saved my life and allowed me to, for the very first time in my entire adult life, live a normal, productive, tax paying, law abiding life. Find more posts like this: Last Wednesday I was helping a client get some stuff moved and tweaked my sciatica bending and lifting something heavy. By Friday it ached enough that I felt I needed to see my doc and maybe get some kind of hardcore anti inflammatory to treat the pain and inflammation. Because I'm on methadone when pain cuts through the 40mgs I take daily, I know I'm in some trouble. It's a bit dangerous not to feel pain or have pain so diminished because the injury can become aggravated or more se "...being homeless is about far more than lacking a roof over one's head; it is a profound form of social exclusion."19
