There's something about dining out on Friday that's absent on other nights. It's as if the collective exhale of TGIF propels people into their seats with a sympathetic understanding of “Me too. It was a hell of a week.”

I can't tell you how much fun this was. I also can't wait to try this again, so I can use my little tweaks to the recipe. The recipe below is how I'm going to make it next time. Since I already have the phyllo sitting in my fridge, that may be pretty soon.

Baklava
3 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1 T. lemon juice
1 t. rosewater
8 oz. phyllo
1 1/2 T. sugar
1/2 c. walnuts
1/2 c. raw pistachios
2 sticks unsalted butter

In other FS news: I made lasagna tonight, like I've made approximately 1 million times before, and it sucked. I am sorry to also report that three other people had to suffer through it with me, but they were awfully kind about it. I have some ideas as to why it was so bad, but I want to think about it a little more.
