Sigh, where have all the heroes gone? The longest serving senator has been indicted. Senator Ted Stephens, known in Alaska as Uncle Ted and everywhere else as the guy who wanted to build a “bridge to nowhere,” has been indicted by the feds for failing to report that a big oil company used part of their billions in profits to remodel part of his house.

The Upside of American Idol

I had never heard Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley until I was rendered motionless when Jason Castro sang it on American Idol.

It has quickly become a song that makes me close my eyes at the first note, while the music flows over me.  Sometimes when I open my eyes, I find tears.  At other times my heart just soars.  But every time it rejuvenates my soul.

I'm off to bike on this beautiful Nashville morning, so I don't have time to write anything profound. Instead, to whet your whistle for tonight's American Idol, here are some photos of Jason Castro pre-idol!

Why I think Jason Castro should win Idol

Last night's performance of "Over the Rainbow" was one of Jason's best. He did it in the style of Hawaiian artist IZ, a version that brought new life to such an old classic. His performances are continuing to evolve, and bring such an open and honest feel to this show, which seems to be all about canned pop songs that are so over-produced and engineered that they begin to all sound alike.

The itunes version of Jason Castro's "Travelin thru" is out, and it is phenomenal!

I think I've figured out why I have such an emotional connection to Jason. Here's a before-dreds picture of him at 16. Looks just like a boy I had a huge crush on in high school. I joined the track team because of him...and I was the slowest hurdler in McGavock history!

Last night, the great Dolly Parton was the mentor to the hopeful contestants on American Idol. From the performances, it was clear that many didn't know her music, and/or are not able to capture the feel of her songs.

Flipping through the channels at the condo in Snowmass, and happened to find American Idol last night. I thought it was a rerun because they were doing Beatles again...

I cannot friggin’ believe it’s been a week since I’ve posted here.  The year of blogging started out strong, but man oh man this week = FAIL.  I adore the new Fail blog even with pictures that look contrived and/or photoshopped.  Still like.

I have to admit it, I have grown to like American Idol. It's pretty hypocritical of me because I have vowed for years not to watch reality television. I think it's killing the creative aspect of the medium. It's voyeuristic and embarrassing to admit, but I do like this show. I started watching last season during the auditions. It's kind of like a car wreck. You don't want to watch but you can't help yourself. Then, once you get familiar with the contestants it's interesting to see how
