The Tennessee Department of Education has recently defended its decision not to recognize homeschool diplomas with the assertion that because they were prohibited from having anything to do with the selection of a curriculum, teachers, or textbooks in the church-related schools which “umbrella” homeschoolers they had no way to tell what a homeschool diploma represented.

Rob Shearer (and Kay Brooks) are reporting on the efforts by Rep. G.A. Hardaway (D-Memphis) to force homeschoolers and private schoolers to pass the public school’s Gateway exams to graduate.

Rep. G. A. Hardaway (D-Memphis) has introduced HB2795 which will require all students whether public, private or home schooled to submit to state testing. The old saying is "He who creates the test creates the curriculum". One of the very reasons parent choose to leave the public schools is the curriculum. I expect he'll be hearing from them
