Sony Corp released its Q2 2008 earnings today. For the quarter ending September 30, 2008, company's revenues were down 0.5%, operating income dropped 90.1% and net income fell 71.8%.

The Financial Times reported today that EMI is working on its own portal through which it can sell music and video content directly to consumers. Some aspects of the site will be free. The launch is expected before Christmas.

Sony Corp announced today it has finalized the acquisition of BMG Music. The deal brings an end to the four-year Sony BMG joint venture. The new company will be called called Sony Music Entertainment Inc.

It was announced this morning that retail giant Best Buy will buy Napster for $121 million. Given Napster's $67 million in cash and short term investments, the net price of the acquisition is $54 million. Best Buy will offer $2.65 per share, a 94.8% premium over Friday's close.
