I attended a major policy meeting today that addressed Park Center's implementation of the Vulnerability Index as our primary method of performing outreach.  A number of heavy hitters were in attendance and Becky Kanis, who flew in from New York to discuss the efficacy of the effort, wowed them with the amazing success rates of this approach.

Well just when we thought this was over, The City Paper has released the Metro Police "matter of record" from the incident Monday night.  Here is what it says about Monday:

UPDATE: Much to report on the events today.

First, the commission meeting and some video will accompany a lengthy report tomorrow but for tonight, let me just say that it looks like we may have gotten the camp's closure at least postponed until November 1st, when Room in the Inn begins.

As most of you know, a number of us worked extremely hard to stop the closure of Tent City over the past few weeks. We succeeded in buying some time to correct some of the problems and were well underway with that effort when disaster struck this weekend.

"About 60 percent of aggravated assaults in downtown Nashville are committed by or against the homeless"

There is no doubt whatsoever that the number of homeless folks is increasing here in Nashville and with it, attacks on them, both by others in the homeless community and by those who prey upon a segment of our society that is traditionally avoiding of law enforcement interaction .

A few weeks ago you may recall a couple of post regarding the possible closing of Tent City. My source back then was contacted directly by members in Tent City and some negotiations occurred which, at the time, were believed sufficient enough to keep the area open.

Not so.
