This all started over here. And it touched a nerve that throbs. Surprising absolutely no one, that nerve has to do with “women’s work”, “men’s work” and the church.

The label "NIMBY" is often thrown around pejoratively (usually to criticize someone for being unreasonable) so much that a while back I tried to qualify the term to show that there are times when it is such opposition is based at least as much on reason as on emotion.

The community meeting was besieged on Saturday by residents who were NIMBY about a proposal by Men of Valor to rezone their property to build what they call "a seminary" for ex-cons.

On the one hand, I believe that the local community should have influence over whether halfway houses go in neighborhoods.
